This research report reviews the overall situation of China's mercury mining, the expected impact of Minamata Convention on mercury on mercury exploration mining activities, the legal and policy issues related to the prohibition of mercury exploitation, the legal issues and cases related to mine closure, and the policy recommendations for the implementation of the prohibition of mercury exploitation in China. The purpose is to provide references and support to China's decision-making on mercury mine development and withdrawal according to the convention, and assist China and industry in identifying further research, and formulate and gradually implement feasible action plans.
