This guideline is a collaborative effort between NRDC and the Institute of Forest Ecology, Environment, and Nature Conservation at the Chinese Academy of Forestry. Forests are the cornerstone of terrestrial ecosystems, serving as critical reservoirs for biodiversity and carbon. They play a vital role in conserving biodiversity, regulating climate, and maintaining soil and water health. Addressing the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss requires scientifically sound approaches to forest protection, restoration, and management. Drawing on an extensive literature review and in-depth case studies, this guideline proposes core principles and key strategies to maximize the synergies between climate action and biodiversity protection in forest management.
