On this year's World Car Free Day, September 22, our China Sustainable Cities team and Communications team joined the Beijing Transport Commission in the city government's public outreach event to encourage green commuting. To raise public awareness, we developed an interactive mobile pamphlet which featured benefits for green commuting for individuals. The Beijing government distributed the mobile pamphlet to over 200,000 Beijing residents electronically and also posted it on Beijing's official transport WeChat social media site. We were honored to be the only international NGO invited to the event. Beijing Transport Commissioner, Mr. Zhengyu Zhou, praised NRDC's Walkability Evaluation Report, which revealed areas of deficiency where Beijing needed to improve pedestrian friendliness. Commissioner Zhou invited NRDC to speak on a public radio program to advocate for walkability.
