Workshop on Low-carbon Power Supply Guarantee: High-Quality Development of Renewable Energy

2024-05-07

Roundtable Discussion @NRDC

NRDC hosted its sixth workshop with Xiamen University’s China Institute for Studies in Energy Policy (CISEP) on policies to guarantee low-carbon power supply, focusing on supporting infrastructure and mechanisms for high-quality development of renewable energy. Key policy recommendations provided by the experts include taking counties as the base for developing distributed renewables, which is conducive to increasing consumption of wind and solar power and ensuring energy security, and using virtual power plants to promote the coordinated development of source, grid, load and storage integration in counties or industrial parks. Experts also provided suggestions for future power system construction, including optimizing electricity price mechanisms, improving national technical standards, and coordinating green electricity and green certificates with carbon markets and carbon quota policies.

Hosted by Dr. Lin Boqiang, Director of CISEP, the discussion included commentary from experts from the China Electricity Council, China Energy Research Society, and State Grid Energy Research Institute.
