NRDC hosted its 7th workshop with Xiamen University’s China Institute for Studies in Energy Policy (CISEP) online on how power companies are proceeding with low-carbon transition by developing new low-carbon business models and policies to support their transition. NRDC China Energy Transition Senior Project Manager Huang Hui emphasized that power companies should use their respective advantages to carry out transitions, such as expanding clean energy, developing a diversified energy matrix, and improving energy efficiency.

Other key policy recommendations provided by the experts included allowing new market entities like renewable energy, energy storage and virtual power plants to enter the power market, encouraging the new power system to adapt to changes like user-side participation, and optimizing market mechanisms and technological innovation.

Hosted by Director of CISEP Lin Boqiang, the discussion included commentary by experts from the China Electricity Council, China Energy Research Society, State Grid Energy Research Institute and China Huaneng Group, which is one of the top five power companies in China. An audience of more than 2500 viewers joined the livestream and the workshop was covered by China Energy News, China Sustainability Tribune, and Financial News.
