Together with our long-time partner, Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE),  we released the 2013-2014 Pollution Information Transparency Index (PITI) report on June 9, 2014, at an event attended by major Chinese and international media outlets, local environmental protection bureaus, and domestic NGOs. This is the fifth annual assessment of over 100 large Chinese cities on local governments' disclosure of critical pollution and environmental information to the public. According to the report, Shandong and Zhejiang Provinces are already publishing hourly pollution emissions data from major industrial facilities. Forty-two cities, including Beijing and Tianjin, followed the central government's new requirement to publicize full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports from project developers. Local environmental bureaus in Shandong and Hunan Provinces began to actively interact with the public through Weibo (Chinese Twitter). IPE also released a new smartphone app that tracks and shames polluting factories in China.
