NRDC, together with 11 other environmental and sustainable development organizations, held an energy conservation workshop on June 11 to share experiences and best practices in promoting energy efficiency in industry, building and transportation. This was the first international organization-initiated event in support of the National Energy Conservation Week (an annual public promotion event led by China’s National Development and Reform Commission) which kicked off on June 11. The event started with an introduction of NRDC’s successful strategic energy management project targeting small-medium enterprises (SMEs) in Suzhou. SMEs account for over 99% of industrial enterprises in China, and better energy management by SMEs could potentially make a significant contribution to China’s energy saving goals. Other presenters included Environment Defense Fund, Energy Foundation China, World Resource Institute (WRI), World Bank, German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) and Innovation Center for Energy and Transportation (iCET). The workshop concluded with a joint statement to continue to support China’s energy conservation efforts by participating organizations. Officials of the National Energy Conservation Center highly acknowledged NRDC and other organizations’ involvement in supporting China’s energy conservation work.
