On August 31, as part of a broader effort to cap coal consumption in China, NRDC’s China Coal Cap project co-hosted the Third Annual Conference on Dispersed Coal Management and released two new reports in Beijing. One report summarizes the research and expert consultations on managing dispersed coal in 2017 and makes recommendations for 2018. It is worth noting that dispersed coal management contributed to about a 40% reduction of Beijing’s PM2.5 in the winter of 2017. The second report presents a review of China’s air pollution control efforts in the past five years and an outlook for the future plan. About 300 participants from research institutes, universities, central and local governments, and enterprises attended the conference, including four Chinese academicians.
