Green Cooling Communications Project Launched

2019-03-28

China is the world's largest producer, consumer and exporter of cooling appliances. In order to improve cooling efficiency and promote green refrigerants in China, the Green Cooling Communications Project was officially launched in Beijing on March 28 with the support of the Clean Cooling Collaborative (formerly known as Kigali Cooling Efficiency Program, or K-CEP).  The project aims to strengthen the public’s understanding of and support for high-efficiency cooling policies and standards, and influence customers’ purchasing choices, thus leading manufacturers and retailers to produce and sell more energy efficient and environmentally friendly refrigeration equipment. Ultimately, this will reduce electricity consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from refrigeration, contributing to the Paris Agreement’s overarching objective of limiting global warming to no more than two degrees Celsius.

More than 40 participants from government agencies, including the National Energy Conservation Center and China Quality Certification Center; national industry associations, including China Household Electrical Appliances Association, China Energy Conservation Association, China Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Industry Association, China Chain Store & Franchise Association; as well as international and domestic organizations, including UNEP, Energy Foundation, WWF, SEE and All-China Environment Federation attended the launch event, and discussed how to work together to promote green cooling.
