Shandong’s Five Year Plan for Energy Development (Draft Version) released on May 21 includes goals to reduce the share of coal in the provincial energy mix to below 60% and to reduce total coal consumption by 10% by 2025. NRDC and its partners provided research recommendations for consideration in setting the plan. The Draft Plan is expected to be officially adopted later this year after public comment. NRDC will continue to work with its partners in Shandong province to ensure that these key coal reduction targets can be met by cutting coal use in key industries, scaling up renewable energy and energy efficiency, and using administrative and market measures to promote the province’s coal to clean energy transition.
