NRDC Co-hosts Workshop on Environmental Public Interest Litigation (EPIL)

2016-06-01

Since the Environmental Protection Law came into effect last year, advocacy groups in China have begun to practice Environmental Public Interest Litigation (EPIL). NRDC partnered with the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) to organize an intensive, three-day workshop for nearly 80 environmental lawyers, judges and NGO practitioners at the start of June. NRDC’s Chief Program Officer Susan Casey- Lefkowitz presented on her experience in the U.S., shedding light on U.S. Clean Power Plan litigation and the case of water pollution in Flint, Michigan. NRDC will continue to work with CBCGDF, which has filed the greatest number of EPIL cases in China to date, on further EPIL capacity building in the coming years.
