More ports are offering green shipping incentives to encourage the uptake of cleaner fuel and technologies that go beyond regulatory requirements. As a project member of International Collaboration on Ship Emission Reductions (ICSER), an initiative launched by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA), NRDC is working to improve awareness and understanding of ship incentive programs. On February 18, NRDC jointly organized a seminar in Hong Kong with the Hong Kong Shipowners Association (HKSOA) and the Port of Vancouver to introduce various green shipping incentives and rating schemes. The seminar also invited ship owners and other industry stakeholders to respond to an incentive program survey launched by the ICSER initiative. The survey will help to develop a user-friendly web portal that would make it easier for marine carriers to learn about and participate in ship incentive programs.
