NRDC Participates in the International Day for Biodiversity Event

2019-05-22

Biodiversity loss is a global problem. The newly released UN Biodiversity report warns that the planet's biodiversity faces an "unprecedented" threat with up to 1 million plant and animal species on brink of extinction. NRDC attended the International Day for Biodiversity 2019 event organized by Ministry of Ecology and Environment in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province from May 22 to 23. More than 200 participants from government agencies, academic communities, enterprises, domestic and international NGOs attended the event.

At the event, MEE’s Minister emphasized that China will continue to attach great importance to biodiversity conservation. The government encourages the broad involvement of all stakeholders to join the efforts to prepare for the fifteenth session of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Kunming in 2020.

As one of the co-organizers of a  sub-forum, NRDC invited a researcher from the National Park Planning and Research Center of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration to present on sustainable infrastructure in protected areas and its impact to biodiversity,  which is a joint research project of NRDC and the National Park Planning and Research Center.
