China Coal Cap Project and China Energy Conservation Association (CECA) co-hosted the Fourth Annual Conference on Dispersed Coal Management in Beijing on August 30. This event was supported by NRDC, the EFC and the WWF. The workshop released two research reports – “China Dispersed Coal Governance Report 2019” and “13th Five-Year Plan Mid-Term Building Sector Coal Consumption Evaluation and Key Later-Term Work Research.” The first report points out that in 2018, China reduced dispersed coal use by 61 million tons. In order to reduce dispersed coal consumption more effectively in 2019, this report recommends that China conduct scientific planning and adjust reduction measures to local conditions. The second report analyzes coal consumption in the building sector during the 13th Five-Year Plan period and proposes recommendations for China’s future reduction work. About 300 participants from government agencies, domestic and overseas research institutes, universities, and enterprises attended the conference. The event was covered extensively by the media, including Caixin.
