Looking Ahead: China’s 14th Five-Year Energy Plan

2019-12-22

China’s 14th Five-Year Energy Plan (Plan) will not only set the trajectory for China’s energy sector emissions reduction but also significantly influence the extent to which the world can get on a below 2C climate scenario. To discuss how we and our partners can provide constructive input to the Plan’s development currently underway, NRDC and the China Energy Research Society (CERS) jointly held a High-Level Power Sector Roundtable in Beijing on December 22. Experts from the China Center for International Economic Exchange and the Energy Research Institute of National Development and Reform Commission kicked off the roundtable discussion by delivering keynote speeches on "Energy Revolution Strategy" and "Renewable Energy Development" respectively. Recognizing both the increasing internationally urgency for addressing climate change and China’s domestic need for high-quality and low-carbon economic development, the roundtable participants propose strengthening efforts around institutional reform, market construction, government legislation and regulation. NRDC will work with our partners to sort out the experts' opinions and carry out relevant research and advocacy in the coming year to support the Plan’s development.
