The ocean plays an important role in helping curb the devastation of the climate and biodiversity  crisis. At the beginning of this year, the Secretariat of the UN CBD set up an international goal of protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030--“30x30” in the Zero Draft of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. This is the first time 30x30  got mentioned in CBD's official document. On May 22nd, International Biodiversity Day, NRDC posted an article in The Paper as part of our work to advocate for 30x30. The Paper is one of China’s top online news sources, and its target audience includes policy makers, conservation experts, and the public. The article explained the origins of the 30x30 goal and how it can benefit China’s marine ecosystem and economy in the long run. Despite the uncertainties and doubts around the realization of 30x30, the article encourages China to support this ambitious international target and contribute to the global effort in addressing biodiversity challenges.
