Scaling Up Clean By Design in Cities

2013-10-01

In 2013, NRDC has begun to use a "city track" approach to scale up the Clean By Design. This regionalplanfocuses on Chinese cities that have a large concentration of textile mills and relatively progressive officials who are under pressure to reduce energy use, improve water quality, and showcase international partnerships in their local textile dyeing and printing mills. As such, NRDC will focus on Shaoxing (Zhejiang Province) and Guangzhou (Guangdong Province) while partnering with multinational brands & retailers, as well as the International Finance Corporation (IFC). Textile mills nominated by brands or local partners in these cities will receive a series of technical training and expert assistance with water and energy efficiency projects through a yearlong program.
