China is the world's largest producer and consumer of coal. In response to climate change and air pollution, NRDC launched a China Coal Consumption Cap Project(aka "China Coal Cap Project")in October 2013 together with over 20 leading Chinese stakeholders, including government think tanks, research institutes, and industry associations. This collaboration has been conducting comprehensive research and providing policy recommendations to reduce coal consumption . Accelerating the replacement of coal with greater energy efficiency and cleaner energy sources is fundamental to helping China achieve its long-term goals for the economy, environment, and climate.
