The True Cost of Coal 2012

Based on the latest data from 2012, the study used a lifecycle analysis approach to quantify the impact of coal mining, coal transportation, and coal use on water, ecology, climate, and human health. Using opportunity cost, shadow pricing, cost of restoration, and willingness-to-pay methodologies to monetize these impacts, the study calculated the external water, climate, environmental and health costs that arise from coal.
