Given its large installed capacity of coal power and new energy, research on the low-carbon transition of Inner Mongolia’s power sector can help to answer questions on the structure, technology, and mechanism of the new power system, serving as a reference for the whole country in building the new power system.

This study examines the current status and development plans for the power sector at the national level and for Inner Mongolia, and analyzes Inner Mongolia’s future power sector development trend. It combines quantitative and qualitative approaches to study the transition path of Inner Mongolia’s power sector under the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals based on the principle of energy-environmental accounting. Further the study puts forward policy recommendations to help promote the low-carbon development of Inner Mongolia’s power sector.
