The goals and pace of the clean power transition in East and South China have a profound impact on China’s green and low-carbon power development, given the two region’s large economic scale and high electricity consumption, with Jiangsu and Guangdong playing particularly significant leading roles. The Electric Power Development Research Institute of the China Electricity Council (CEC) conducted a study on the low-carbon power transition pathways in East and South regions, with Jiangsu and Guangdong as the focal points. This study analyzes the commonalities and differences in the low-carbon power development characteristics of East and South regions by establishing a regional low-carbon power transition index system. Additionally, the study assesses the medium- to long-term trends of low-carbon power transition in these regions and their impact on the national power landscape, and provides recommendations for synergistic low-carbon power transition between the two regions. NRDC supported the China Energy Research Society and the China Electricity Council in hosting the China Power Sector Low-Carbon Transition Annual Forum 2024, where the Electric Power Development Research Institute of CEC released its report.
