NRDC partnered with the Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs (IPE) and a research team led by Professor Yuan Jiahai of North China Electric Power University to release the latest research on Tracking the Low-carbon Transition Performance of Chinese Listed Thermal Power Generation Companies under China’s Carbon Neutrality Target on May 30. The report examines 31 listed thermal power generation companies, each meeting a threshold requirement of having thermal power capacity equivalent to at least 30% of their total installed capacity. It evaluates each company’s performance in low-carbon transition during the 13th Five-Year Plan and their performance in low-carbon planning during the 14th Five-Year Plan and beyond, forming a ranking based on the analysis, to provide support to the power generation industry in achieving the carbon peaking and neutrality goals. Han Wenxuan (former Deputy Chief Economist at the Energy Research Institute of China Huaneng Group), Zhang Weidong (Head of Planning at the Planning & Finance Dept of China Electricity Council), Zheng Kuan (Researcher at China International Capital Corporation Global Institute) and Ma Jun (head of IPE) joined the panel discussion after the report release. Major Chinese media, including CPPCC News, China Financial Times, Cailian covered the report findings.
