China’s 2nd National Park Forum was held in Xining, Qinghai on August 19, jointly hosted by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration/National Park Bureau and the Qinghai Provincial Government. NRDC invited Dr. Kirsten Grorud-Colvert from the Oregon State University to give a presentation on Conserving Ocean Areas to Support Marine Biodiversity and Benefit Local Communities at the forum to introduce the research paper from her and a team of top scientists on MPAs. The research paper MPA Guide was published on Science Journal. MPAs are essential tools for achieving the GBF 30X30 goals by conserving marine biodiversity, restoring habitats, managing fisheries sustainably, and enhancing climate change resilience. Dr. Grorud-Colvert’s presentation at the forum also echoes the calls from leading Chinese experts to further protect marine biodiversity in China and beyond.
