The China Coal Cap project hosted the 2017 China Coal Consumption Cap and Energy Transition International Workshop, “Breaking Through to Blue Skies,” in Beijing on November 30th, 2017. Over 300 participants attended the event, including governmental officials, Chinese and foreign experts in the environment and energy fields, and representatives from research organizations, enterprises, NGOs, and the media. Participants discussed how to address the rebound in coal consumption by industry in the first half of the year, and sharing and deepening local coal cap implementation experiences. Organized in cooperation with the China Energy Conservation Association, and with the support of the Children's Investment Fund Foundation, WWF, Energy Foundation China and China Energy Net, the workshop also hosted the release of a new report on strengthening China's dispersed coal policies to reduce and replace coal used for residential heating and small-scale industry, and the publication of new research on industry coal cap scenarios to remain below 1.5°C of warming. The workshop was covered by key news outlets, including Xinhua and People's Daily.
