The 9th annual Pollution Information Transparency Index (PITI) report was released by the Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs (IPE) and NRDC on December 25 in Beijing. For the second year in a row, Wenzhou in Zhejiang province ranked the first among 120 cities. Although environmental information disclosure has gradually become the normal practice in cities, improvements still have to be made in the central and western provinces. Representatives from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), local environmental protection bureaus, research institutes, and NGOs attended the event. Officials from local environmental bureaus shared their experiences in environmental information disclosure. Wang Canfa, Professor at the China University of Political Science and Law, pointed out that the central government’s environmental inspection campaign was a key factor that advanced local information disclosure. Jia Feng, Director of the Center for Environmental Education and Communications of MEE spoke highly of the PITI report’s role in promoting environmental information disclosure in China.
