NRDC successfully launched the Power Sector Roundtable high-level steering committee by holding the inaugural meeting together with China Energy Research Society on February 28. A significant milestone for our effort to drive deep carbon reduction in China’s power sector, the steering committee will enable us to reach influential stakeholders and policymakers. The committee is composed of high-level representatives from major players in the power sector, including former vice ministers of National Energy Administration, senior executives from China Datang Corporation, State Grid, and China Southern Power Grid, top experts from Electric Power Planning and Engineering Institute, Energy Research Institute of National Development and Reform Commission, and other top research institutions. The committee members shared a wide range of perspectives on power sector development and reform issues at this closed-door meeting, providing a good start for ongoing dialogues to come. As a next step, NRDC will distill priority research areas from issues identified at the meeting, and work with top think tanks to conduct research and provide policy recommendations to be discussed at the next high-level steering committee meeting.
