Power Sector Roundtable Gains Momentum

2015-10-16

Building on the momentum of our successful Power Sector Roundtable launched last month, NRDC held a second workshop titled U.S. and China Power Sectors Address Climate Change, in Beijing on October 16, 2015. This workshop focused on power sector-related measures announced in the U.S.-China Joint Presidential Statement on Climate Change released in September, specifically, with a view toward how these measures will enable China's power sector to effectively address climate change. Of particular interest to the audience were the presentations from China's State Grid Corporation and China Southern Grid regarding their respective efforts on green dispatch, which drew many questions as well as follow-up requests for information – clearly indicating that this is a key area for further discussion and analysis. Other topics covered at the workshop included the U.S. Clean Power Plan, carbon trading in the power sector, China's global energy internet vision, and renewable integration in the U.S. The workshop drew about 70 participants – twice our intended target – from grid companies, research institutes, NGOs and media. The Roundtable workshop was cohosted with World Wild Fund and held in collaboration with Energy Foundation China, the Paulson Institute, and the Regulatory Assistance Project
