Panelists and representatives at the 6th Dispersed Coal Conference @NRDC
Dispersed coal use in rural households and industries is a major source of both carbon emissions and air pollution. To help improve indoor air quality and public health in rural areas and to support the goal of replacing dispersed coal use by the end of the 14th FYP period, NRDC and the Institute of Energy at Peking University held the 6th Dispersed Coal Management Conference on September 15 and launched the 2021 China Dispersed Coal Management Report.
The report identified dispersed coal for residential use as the key target of coal reduction and recommended to cut it by 50 million tons during the 14th FYP period. The report also recommended that policymakers formulate a Clean Heating Plan for Northern China (2022-2025) to establish tailored evaluation systems for each province. At the conference, NRDC and its partner introduced the research findings, which were discussed by policymakers and industry experts from the NDRC Energy Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Environmental Planning, China Academy of Building Research, China Energy Research Society, China Brick & Tile Industry Association and China Association of Rural Energy Industry. The report’s recommendations were covered by media outlets like Caixin, Yicai, and China Chemical Industry News.
