COP15 Special Wildlife Law and Governance Workshop:Combatting Illegal Wildlife Trade is Key to Addressing the Global Biodiversity Crisis

NRDC supported the Chinese translation of the World Wildlife Crime Report 

In light of the upcoming Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) COP15, NRDC and its partners hosted the fifth workshop of the Wildlife Law and Governance series on September 28. The workshop focused on the theme of contributing to biodiversity protection through combatting illegal wildlife trade, and provided various perspectives from representatives of academia, law enforcement agencies, and legal experts. An expert from the Nanjing Forest Police College introduced major findings from the 2020 UNODC Wildlife Crime Report which included trends and developments in illegal wildlife trade around the world. Supported by NRDC, the report has been translated into Chinese and officially published. A representative from the Anti-smuggling Bureau of China Customs shared their experience and practices for cracking down on international organized wildlife crime.  An expert from the International Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Justice introduced the framework and procedures of current international judicial cooperation. In his closing remarks, Professor Qin Tianbao from Wuhan University emphasized that combatting illegal wildlife trade is an important step to tackle the global biodiversity crisis.
