Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Energy Transition Project Manager, the Consultant shall perform the assigned tasks on non-CO2 greenhouse gas (GHG) research focusing on methane, but also help with other work as needed.
The Consultant position will be for an initial term of 6 months, with the potential to extend based on program needs. The Consultant must be working in the office at least 3 days per week (7 hours per day with 1 hour unpaid lunch break).
Responsibilities
The non-CO2 GHG Project Consultant will work with partners to prepare methane utilization research proposals, budgets, contracts, and compliance materials; organize expert review meetings and provide expert feedback and guidance to partners to improve research; and assist with reporting on the methane project progress and trends of methane mitigation in energy and waste sectors.
The Consultant will manage research cooperation and engagement with Chinese partners on methane abatement policies in key sectors, including but not limited to energy (focusing on the coal industry) and waste sectors.
The Consultant will also analyze and research methane mitigation technologies, best practices in China and internationally, prepare research reports and communications on research findings and recommendations, and help develop strategies for promoting methane abatement of key sectors in China.
The Consultant may also support work on related to abatement of non-methane short lived climate forcers (SLCFs) as needed.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in energy, environmental policy, science or engineering, energy economics or a related field, or 3-5 years of working experience in a related field or organization.
Ideally, experience working on GHG mitigation in the key sectors.
Excellent research and writing skills in both Mandarin and English.
Broad knowledge of environmental, GHG and climate change policy in China and abroad, and experience in researching and writing on environmental policy.
Experience and ability to work cooperatively with stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, universities, companies, and NGOs. Strong interpersonal skills and a team player.
