This report examines the coal reduction potential of five major coal-consuming industries (iron and steel, aluminum, chemicals, cement and petrochemicals) in Shandong province. The study finds that these industries can facilitate coal consumption reduction and green and low-carbon transformation through optimizing industrial layout, implementing energy-saving technology retrofits, increasing the proportion of clean energy, and developing circular economy. The study finds that doing so can effectively support coal consumption control and total energy consumption and energy intensity control in Shandong Province.
