Electric vehicles are able to provide useful services to the electric grid when combined with other demand response resources. The services include: smoothing load curves, improving grid operations and efficiency, increasing the grid uptake of renewable energy, and so on. An integrative solution that taps into the synergies of electric vehicles, renewable energy and demand response by way of orderly charging (near term) and vehicle-to-grid technologies (longer run) contributes to China’s carbon reduction goals, and holds considerable values to the grid.
