With the recent implementation of China's new Environmental Protection Law, Chinese policymakers must now turn their attention to bolstering key media-specific environmental laws. In particular, the Water Pollution Prevention and Control Law (colloquially known as the Water Law) is being amended for the first time since 2008. In order to learn from the experience and lessons of the U.S. Clean Water Act, the Ministry of Environmental Protection's (MEP's) Foreign Economic Cooperation Office (FECO) has asked NRDC to provide information relating to key concerns during the amending of the Water Law. Jared Knicley and Aaron Colangelo, NRDC's in-house experts on the U.S. Clean Water Act, recently drafted a brief memo in response to FECO's questions. NRDC will continue cooperating with FECO to provide technical assistance to the revision of the Water Law and other water-related policies.
