In celebration of the 2021 World Forest Day, the China National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA) associated newspaper featured a full-page article on UNFI implementation and practice in Yuhang District within Hangzhou , Zhejiang Province, a UNFI China pilot supported by NRDC.  NRDC has worked with the China Postal Savings Bank and Zhejiang Agriculture and Forest University to introduce a  “Bamboo Carbon Loan” as part of the Yuhang District pilot. This loan is designed to encourage carbon-friendly sustainable bamboo management within the local community in order to protect the endemic bamboo species and to support local livelihood. In his interview with the NFGA newspaper Liu Xin, the deputy director of NFGA International Project Cooperation Center, pointed out that leveraging green finance to support forestry carbon is an innovative approach in China’s UNFI implementation.
