Collaboration to Support Inner Mongolia’s Clean Transition

2021-06-23

On June 23, together with the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC), NRDC held the workshop in Inner Mongolia (IM) to discuss the province’s pathways to green development and clean transition. The deputy director of NCSC and the China Program Director of NRDC made the opening remarks. The director of IM Energy Bureau, the division chief from Ecology and Environment Bureau and the division chief from Industry and Information Bureau made the keynote speech on IM’s energy structure, environmental situation and the development of industrial parks, and the challenges the province is facing to meet the goal of dual control of total energy consumption and energy intensity. NRDC presented this year’s work plan on IM. More than 40 participants from government agencies, research institutions and universities participated in the workshop and discussed the challenges of carbon emission reductions and ways to achieve clean transition. IM is one of the biggest coal-producing and consuming provinces in China and would face great challenges to meet China’s carbon peaking and neutrality targets. NRDC joined hands with partners at the national and local levels to conduct a series of projects in the province, addressing coal production and consumption reduction, the just transition and the nexus of energy transition and environmental protection. NRDC aims to work closely with partners to explore practicable pathways for IM to peaking its carbon emissions as early and as low as possible through clean energy and energy transition.
