NRDC Greening Belt and Road Initiative Project held and attended a series of events during COP 24 in Poland in December, providing recommendations for promoting green investment through green finance mechanisms as well as recommendations for green power cooperation in Belt and Road countries to be in line with Paris Agreement.
On 7th December 2018, NRDC China Program Climate and Energy Policy Director Alvin Lin introduced China’s experience on energy transition at a Poland Pavilion side event.
On 11th December 2018, Greening Belt and Road Initiative (GBRI) project steering group committee member and NRDC China Program Senior Advisor on climate and energy, Fuqiang Yang, spoke at the UNFCCC press conference to introduce GBRI’s latest research of Electric Power Planning Engineering Institute (EPPEI) on recommendations for implementing the Integrated Resource Planning concept in BRI countries. On 12th December 2018, Greening Belt and Road Initiative Project researcher and senior engineer of China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute International Department, Yuetao Xie, introduced current status and future potential of RE development in ASEAN countries. Click for factsheet
Ms. Hongyu Guo, researcher from Greenovation Hub (GHub), introduced the opportunities and challenges of Belt and Road overseas investment in the power sector, using Vietnam, Indonesia and Pakistan as examples to assess the demand for clean energy investment to achieve their NDCs under the “Paris Agreement”. On 12th December 2018, Fuqiang Yang represented GBRI’s Green Finance research group to speak at the “Promoting green investment of the BRI through green finance”, introduced current status of green finance development in China and globally. Also he shared recommendations to promote and develop green finance together with host countries partners and international financial partners to support BRI green development.
On 13th December 2018, NRDC International Program Director Jake Schmidt spoke at “Advancing Construction of Green Manufacturing System, Promoting Industrial Green and Low-Carbon Development” side event at China Pavilion, introduced and discussed with panelist about NRDC China Program’s recent works and experiences of sustainable industrial development, including green cooperation standards in BRI countries, strategic energy management project in China, and green supply chain initiative, etc.
